Virtual Orchestra instructions

WHAT YOU WILL NEED​​​​​​​​
  1. MUSIC for your part (you should have received this as a PDF file in your email)
  2. ONE DEVICE to play the video below
  3. ONE DEVICE to record you playing your part
  4. HEADPHONES or EARBUDS

PRACTICE
  1. Rehearse using the video below
  2. Make sure you are solid on the notes and rhythms.
  3. Pay careful attention to dynamics, phrasing and articulations

Once you have learned the piece you are ready to create the recording. You will need 2 devices: one to play the accompaniment track and one to record. You will also need headphones or earbuds. Follow the steps below to create your recording.​

RECORDING INSTRUCTIONS

​VIDEO SET-UP
  1. Set-up in a room that will be quiet.
  2. Set your recording device horizontally or vertically depending on your instrument.
    1. Flute, Violin, Trumpet, etc. should be horizontal - Oboe, Clarinet, Cello, etc. should be vertical.                        Be sure we can see the majority of your instrument. 
  3. Make sure lighting is good and we can see your instrument at all times.
  4. Check your background
    1. Use a blank wall with no pictures or hangings behind you. A neutral color is preferred.
  5. Wear concert black.

AUDIO SET-UP
  1. Use a device with a good quality microphone to record.
    1. iPhones or Smartphones work well.
    2. You can also use an external microphone but it is not necessary.
  2. The device used for recording should be stable. Use a tripod, music stand or get creative!
  3. Use headphones or earbuds to listen the track while you play.
    1. The recording should be only your instrument – NO accompaniment should be heard.
  4. Plug your headphones into the device that is playing the accompaniment track.
  5. Record a small part of the song and check it to make sure the audio and video are good.
  6. Record the entire song from the very beginning of the song to the very end.
    1. Be aware that even when you are not playing you are still recording.
  7. Save your video
    1. Use the song title and your last name for the file name.

  8. Upload your video using the button below.
    1. You will be given the choice to upload your video or if your video is on Google Drive you can send a link to your video.
