ABOUT THE ORCHESTRA
The Beatrice Regional Orchestra was founded in January of 2009 by Connie Moon. The orchestra gave its inaugural concert in May of 2009. The orchestra is made up of musicians from greater Southeast Nebraska and from all walks of life. Membership is open to players high school and above. We rehearse Tuesday evenings during the school year in the high school band room, from 7 to 9 pm. ABOUT OUR CONDUCTOR
Kelly Meyer is the new director of the Beatrice Regional Orchestra. Kelly has recently retired from Beatrice Public Schools, where he served for 25 years as the high school choir director. In his time at BHS, Kelly directed several of our current orchestra members in the pit orchestra of many musical theatre productions. He also has participated in many Beatrice Regional Orchestra performances throughout the years as a vocalist and as a teacher of a participating choir. As an educator, Kelly served on the executive board of the Nebraska Choral Directors Association and was chair of choral affairs for the Nebraska Music Educators Association. He has directed several conference honor choirs and clinics all over the state of Nebraska. Kelly is currently the music director at Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice. Kelly's wife Brenda currently teaches first grade at Lincoln Elementary School here in Beatrice. He has three children, Natalie Havekost, a first grade teacher at Riley Elementary School in Lincoln, Grant Meyer, a mechanical engineering major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Max Meyer, a sports media and communications major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a son-in-law, Eli Havekost, an RN on the Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln.
